So after looking into ome, radflo and closely considering fox 2.5s, i decided on icon stage 1 with ome 2720 springs on the rear.
Icon stage 2 4runner forum. Some guys say they run it just fine with no rubbing and some have had to make drastic changes to their frame, body and fender liners. My fj had kings which i personally thought was the best. At least i have heard that about going up in size for bilsteins and icon 2.5 vs 3.0. I can't compare them to the billets because i've never had billets.
I run 285/70r17's and have the stage iii with tubular upper arms. Just ordered icon stage 2. These are from my 99 4runner, so should be the exact same as 1st gen tacoma's as well.
$1800 cad or $1350 usd. 2.0 icon behaves differently than 2.5 icon, at least for 80s. The stage 2 is probably the best bang for your buck in terms of a “quality” aftermarket suspension.
I am totally satisfied with what i have. I also have a similar setup on my 4runner. Icon stage 3, icon billet ucas, 5.29s, arb lockers f+r, coachbuilder +2s and shims, rago fab ditch light brackets and bed stiffeners, rago fabrication sliders, are camper, 17x9 xds and 37/12.5/17 stt pros, dt long tubes, xpipe with dual magnaflows, full.
Icon vehicle dynamics 2.5 rebuild. Offroad performance gets an easy 10/10 2000 4runner 4x4 ltd w/elocker (beach buggy).
The reason was money and extended travel. Pacific customs fox spanner nut wrench for fox 2.0 shocks spring preload nut and jam nut with 3/8 drive for ratchet. I am running rough roads in alaska, and by rough, i.
I had icons on my 3rd gen tacoma and 5th gen 4runner. It’s my understanding in general larger diameter shocks can be tuned for better bump compliance with more control. Disclaimer, i have no experience with anything like this.
I can give some feedback if you can wait until then. Setup i have is the icon stage 2 c/os, total chaos uca & monotube shocks at the rear. Strange how awesomely wheel articulation handles imperfections in the terrain, and how harsh the ride is (compared to stock atleast trd offroad included) on the road.

Well i pulled the trigger on the stage 2 lift. It’s not cheap by any means but there is a big difference between the stage 1 and stage 2 with the extended travel coilovers. Complete lift kits by icon, arb, ome, radflo, revtek, king.
I think geometrically they are about the same, so the big difference is probably material. I do believe i was headed in the wrong direction with 2 coilovers as a long term solid solution for my 2010 lc200. Just saying that comparing a 2.0 or 2.5 icon to 3.0 king will be very different.
The 4runner will be mostly road driven with some beach and light/medium trails. Thank you so much for the detailed response!!! This is a writeup on how to rebuild your 2.5 coilovers, specifically icons.
We have 285/75r17s (33.8″ tires) on our 4runner and we had lots of rubbing. The 34″ tire question with stage 2 icon lift is a bit of a tricky question. I haven't ridden on any of the other options i mentioned, so obviously, i can't provide a comparative.
